                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Joint State Government Commission to study the
     2     status of occupational disability compensation insurance and
     3     the awarding of certain disability compensation benefits.

     4     WHEREAS, Before June 30, 1977, there were Pennsylvanians who,
     5  because of job-related injuries, found themselves eligible to
     6  collect disability compensation benefits and certain of these
     7  disabled workers actually received benefit amounts of less than
     8  $60 per week; and
     9     WHEREAS, The General Assembly of the Commonwealth amended the
    10  Workmen's Compensation Law to award a $60-a-week benefit rate
    11  for all those below that rate for as long as the benefit lasted,
    12  in most cases until death, making it possible for those
    13  collecting it to afford the cost of living, at that time; and
    14     WHEREAS, Since 1977 the cost of living in Pennsylvania far
    15  exceeds $60 per week, and while the minimum benefit rate for
    16  Workmen's Compensation in Pennsylvania is $112 in 1985, there
    17  are still Pennsylvanians collecting benefits of $60 a week;
    18  therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the Joint State Government Commission conduct
     2  a study to determine how many disabled Pennsylvanians collect
     3  the $60-a-week benefit, examine how best to adjust this rate and
     4  provide cost figures to the Commonwealth, if increases were to
     5  be made; and be it further
     6     RESOLVED, That the Joint State Government Commission report
     7  its findings and recommendations for legislation to the House of
     8  Representatives as soon as possible.
