A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1 Conveying sympathy to the families affected by the tornadoes and 2 thunderstorms of May 31 and June 1, 1985; and considering 3 emergency funding for recovery. 4 WHEREAS, On May 31 and June 1, 1985, tornadoes and
1 thunderstorms of unprecedented severity struck large areas of 2 this Commonwealth, including the counties of Beaver, Butler, 3 Clearfield, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lycoming, Northumberland, 4 McKean, Mercer, Union, Venango and Warren; and 5 WHEREAS, At least 62 people have died, approximately 700 6 people have been injured, and thousands of people have been left 7 homeless; and 8 WHEREAS, The destruction is of a magnitude that requires the 9 Commonwealth to supplement the recovery efforts of political 10 subdivisions; and 11 WHEREAS, On June 1 and 2, 1985, Governor Thornburgh declared 12 a state of emergency in the affected areas; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly 14 extend its deepest sympathy to the families of those who were 15 killed and to the families who suffered property damage; and be 16 it further 17 RESOLVED, That the General Assembly consider appropriate 18 emergency funding to assist recovery efforts and to enable the 19 affected people of this Commonwealth to resume their normal 20 lives.
