                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for general, municipal and
     6     primary election days to be legal holidays.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1502 of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
    11  amended January 24, 1966 (1965 P.L.1508, No.529), is amended to
    12  read:
    13     Section 1502.  Days Schools not to be Kept Open.--No school
    14  shall be kept open on any Saturday for the purpose of ordinary
    15  instruction, except when Monday is fixed by the board of school
    16  directors as the weekly holiday, or on Sunday, Memorial Day,
    17  Fourth of July, [or] Christmas or on any general, municipal or
    18  primary election day, nor shall any school be kept open in any
    19  district during the time of holding the teachers' institute for


     1  such district. Whenever Memorial day shall be on a Sunday, the
     2  following Monday shall be a holiday.
     3     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
