                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 18, 1935 (P.L.1314, No.411 1/2),
     2     entitled, as amended, "An act authorizing the utilization of
     3     the Pennsylvania State Police Academy for training persons to
     4     act as policemen in the political subdivisions of the
     5     Commonwealth; prescribing the qualifications for admission of
     6     such persons to such school; providing for the payment of
     7     certain costs by such students; conferring certain powers
     8     upon the Pennsylvania State Police; and making an
     9     appropriation," and including training for response to ethnic
    10     tension situations.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  Section 1 of the act of July 18, 1935 (P.L.1314,
    14  No.411 1/2), entitled, as amended, "An act authorizing the
    15  utilization of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy for
    16  training persons to act as policemen in the political
    17  subdivisions of the Commonwealth; prescribing the qualifications
    18  for admission of such persons to such school; providing for the
    19  payment of certain costs by such students; conferring certain

     1  powers upon the Pennsylvania State Police; and making an
     2  appropriation," amended June 29, 1959 (P.L.487, No.112), is
     3  amended to read:
     4     Section 1.  Be it enacted, &c., That the Pennsylvania State
     5  Police shall have the power, and its duty shall be, to conduct
     6  at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy courses of instruction
     7  for the proper training of persons to act as policemen for the
     8  several political subdivisions of this Commonwealth. Subject to
     9  the provisions of this act, the Commissioner of Pennsylvania
    10  State Police is hereby authorized to establish standards of
    11  proficiency, training and discipline for persons attending such
    12  school, and to issue certificates of qualification to graduates
    13  of the various courses of instruction. Such training shall
    14  include identifying and responding to ethnic tension situations
    15  and complaints of violation of 18 Pa.C.S. §§ 2710 (relating to
    16  ethnic intimidation) or 3307 (relating to institutional
    17  vandalism). The Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor,
    18  shall employ such instructors and other employes as may be
    19  necessary for the purposes of this act.
    20     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
