                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of October 27, 1955 (P.L.744, No.222),
     2     entitled, as amended, "An act prohibiting certain practices
     3     of discrimination because of race, color, religious creed,
     4     ancestry, age or national origin by employers, employment
     5     agencies, labor organizations and others as herein defined;
     6     creating the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in the
     7     Department of Labor and Industry; defining its functions,
     8     powers and duties; providing for procedure and enforcement;
     9     providing for formulation of an educational program to
    10     prevent prejudice; providing for judicial review and
    11     enforcement and imposing penalties," further providing for
    12     educational programs.

    13     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    14  hereby enacts as follows:
    15     Section 1.  Section 8 of the act of October 27, 1955
    16  (P.L.744, No.222), known as the Pennsylvania Human Relations
    17  Act, is amended to read:
    18     Section 8.  Educational [Program] Programs.--
    19     (a)  In order to eliminate prejudice among the various
    20  racial, religious and nationality groups in this Commonwealth
    21  and to eliminate prejudice based on gender, age and handicap and
    22  to further good will among such groups, the Commission, in

     1  cooperation with the Department of [Public Instruction]
     2  Education, is authorized to prepare a comprehensive educational
     3  program, designed for the students of the schools in this
     4  Commonwealth and for all other residents thereof, in order to
     5  eliminate prejudice against such groups.
     6     (b)  In order to eliminate prejudice against the various
     7  racial, religious and nationality groups in this Commonwealth
     8  and to eliminate prejudice based on gender, age and handicap and
     9  to further good will among such groups, and to foster better
    10  relations in the workplace, the commission in cooperation with
    11  the Department of Labor and Industry and with representatives of
    12  business and labor, and in consultation with other appropriate
    13  agencies of the Commonwealth, is authorized to prepare an
    14  educational program designed for the employes and employers in
    15  this Commonwealth.
    16     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
