                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242, No.428), entitled
     2     "An act relating to roads, streets, highways and bridges;
     3     amending, revising, consolidating and changing the laws
     4     administered by the Secretary of Highways and by the
     5     Department of Highways relating thereto," providing for
     6     raised reflective markers on certain highways.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242, No.428), known
    10  as the State Highway Law, is amended by adding a section to
    11  read:
    12     Section 426.  Raised Reflective Markers.--(a)  The department
    13  shall install and maintain plowable raised reflective road
    14  markers on the State highways of the Commonwealth with average
    15  daily traffic of five thousand (5,000) or more vehicles. The
    16  department shall adopt standards for markers suitable for use on
    17  the Commonwealth's highways consistent with and, so far as


     1  practicable, conforming to nationally recognized standards for
     2  traffic control devices.
     3     (b)  In order to achieve maximum benefits and economy, the
     4  department shall install the markers in conjunction with
     5  scheduled construction, repair or resurfacing, giving priority
     6  to State highways having the highest incidence of accidents.
     7     Section 2.  The department shall issue an annual status
     8  report detailing the mileage and location of road markers
     9  installed under this section to the Transportation Committees of
    10  the House of Representatives and the Senate. The report shall
    11  include, but not be limited to, the location and the yearly and
    12  total mileage of markers installed.
    13     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
