AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, prohibiting mobile homes or prefabricated homes
3 which exceed 70 feet in length from being transported on
4 highways in this Commonwealth.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Section 4923 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
8 Consolidated Statutes, amended July 7, 1983 (P.L.32, No.19), is
9 amended to read:
10 § 4923. Length of vehicles.
11 (a) General rule.--Except as provided in subsection (b), no
12 motor vehicle, including any load and bumpers, shall exceed an
13 overall length of 40 feet, and no combination, including any
14 load and bumpers, shall exceed an overall length of 60 feet.
15 (b) Exceptions.--The limitations of subsection (a) do not
16 apply to the following:
17 (1) Any motor vehicle equipped with a boom or boom-like
18 device if the vehicle does not exceed 55 feet.
1 (2) Any combination transporting articles [which do
2 not], including, but not limited to, mobile homes and
3 prefabricated homes, when the articles transported do not
4 exceed 70 feet in length and are nondivisible as to length.
5 (3) Any bus of an articulated design which does not
6 exceed 60 feet.
7 (4) Any motor vehicle towing a disabled motor vehicle to
8 a location for repair or to some other place of safety.
9 (5) A combination designed and used exclusively for
10 carrying motor vehicles if the overall length of the
11 combination and load does not exceed 65 feet.
12 (6) Any combination consisting of a truck tractor and
13 one or two trailers, when driven as described in section 4908
14 (relating to operation of certain combinations on interstate
15 and certain primary highways), provided that, except when
16 being operated as a part of a combination of a tractor and
17 single trailer not exceeding an overall length of 60 feet,
18 the length of a single trailer shall not exceed 48 feet and
19 the length of each double trailer shall not exceed 28 feet.
20 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
