AN ACT
1 Amending Title 24 (Education) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further defining "basic contribution rate"; and
3 further providing for Commonwealth and employer payments and
4 member contributions to the fund.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. The definition of "basic contribution rate" in
8 section 8102 of Title 24 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
9 Statutes is amended to read:
10 § 8102. Definitions.
11 The following words and phrases when used in this part shall
12 have, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the
13 meanings given to them in this section:

15 "Basic contribution rate." The rate of 5 1/4%, or the rate
16 determined by the board pursuant to section 8331 (relating to
17 determination of payments and contributions), except for an
18 active member of Class T-A or T-B, the appropriate rate based on
1 sex and age at entry into the system.

3 Section 2. Title 24 is amended by adding a section to read:
4 § 8331. Determination of payments and contributions.
5 The board shall, to meet the actuarial requirements of the
6 fund, make the necessary increases in Commonwealth payments,
7 employer payments and member contributions on an equal basis
8 between the three payment sources. The board may increase the
9 basic contribution rate on an annual basis for each fiscal year
10 period. The adjusted rate shall be published in the Pennsylvania
11 Bulletin at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the fiscal
12 year for which the rate applies.
13 Section 3. Publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin of the
14 initial rate adjustment under 24 Pa.C.S. § 8331 (relating to
15 determination of payments and contributions) for the 1983-1984
16 fiscal year shall be made within 30 days following the decision
17 of the board to adjust the rate.
18 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 1983.
