HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY FREIND, CIVERA, MICOZZIE, GANNON, ARTY, SPITZ,
           ALDEN AND DURHAM, JULY 1, 1981

        ADOPTED, JULY 1, 1981

                           In the House of Representatives, July 1, 1981

     1     WHEREAS, The commuter rail system in southeastern
     2  Pennsylvania (SEPTA), which is operated by Conrail, provides
     3  vitally needed services to that region of the Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, Conrail has indicated that it might be forced to
     5  discontinue its operations of said commuter rail system; and
     6     WHEREAS, Amtrak has demonstrated its ability to provide safe
     7  and efficient rail service; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     9  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urges Amtrak to consider the
    10  possibility of taking over the operation of said commuter rail
    11  system in southeastern Pennsylvania; and be it further
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    13  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorializes Congress to study the
    14  possibility of Amtrak taking over the operation of said commuter
    15  rail system in southeastern Pennsylvania and, if feasible, enact
    16  such legislation as is necessary to facilitate such takeover;
    17  and be it further

     1     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to the
     2  directors of Amtrak and to the presiding officers of the Senate
     3  and the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United
     4  States and to each Senator and Representative from Pennsylvania
     5  in the Congress of the United States.
