In the House of Representatives, March 23, 1981 1 WHEREAS, During the late 19th century and early 20th century, 2 large numbers of people of Slavic descent settled in 3 Pennsylvania seeking employment in the steel mills and coal 4 mines of the Commonwealth; and 5 WHEREAS, Today Pennsylvania proudly boasts of the fact that 6 one-half of all people of Slavic descent continue to make 7 Pennsylvania their home; and 8 WHEREAS, The rich heritage of Slavic-Americans in industry, 9 music, dance, food, handicrafts and other areas has greatly 10 enhanced the history and lives of all Pennsylvanians; therefore 11 be it 12 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly 13 of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby recognizes the week 14 of April 6 - 12, 1981 as "Slavic-American Culture Week" and 15 urges all Pennsylvanians to partake in the rich cultural 16 heritage of the Slavic-American people living within this 17 Commonwealth.
