                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for the issuance of a prisoner of
     3     war registration plate.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Subsection (c) of section 1342 of Title 75, act
     7  of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the
     8  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, is amended to read:
     9  § 1342.  Veteran plates and placard.

    11     (c)  Prisoner of war plate.--On the application of an ex-
    12  prisoner of war whose imprisonment while in the service of the
    13  armed forces of the United States is certified by the
    14  appropriate branch of the armed forces, the department shall
    15  issue a special registration plate designating the vehicle as


     1  belonging to an ex-prisoner of war. All persons now United
     2  States citizens who were imprisoned while serving in any of the
     3  allied armed forces during World War II shall be considered ex-
     4  prisoners of war for purposes of this subsection. The
     5  registration plate shall contain the letters "POW" and such
     6  other numbers or letters as the department may determine and
     7  shall have the words "prisoner of war" in at least ten-point
     8  bold type inscribed at the bottom of the plate. The special
     9  registration plate may be used only on one passenger vehicle or
    10  one other vehicle with a registered gross weight of not more
    11  than 9,000 pounds.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
