AN ACT 1 Amending the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), entitled "An 2 act to consolidate, editorially revise, and codify the public 3 welfare laws of the Commonwealth," requiring able-bodied 4 recipients to assist others in emergencies and disasters. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Section 405, act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, 8 No.21), known as the "Public Welfare Code," is amended by adding 9 a paragraph to read: 10 Section 405. Regulations as to Community Work and 11 Training.--* * * 12 The department shall, when requested by the State Council of 13 Civil Defense, provide a list of able-bodied recipients of 14 assistance from such areas of the Commonwealth as the council 15 shall request. The department may exclude from the list those 16 able-bodied recipients who are themselves involved in the 17 emergency or disaster or who are caring for other persons not 18 able to care for themselves. All able-bodied recipients listed
1 shall assist others in emergency or disaster areas as the 2 Director of Civil Defense shall direct. The Director of Civil 3 Defense shall coordinate the assignment, transportation and 4 supervision of the recipients. All departments and agencies of 5 the State Government and all municipalities and school districts 6 of the Commonwealth shall cooperate with the Director of Civil 7 Defense in transportation, providing food, shelter, appropriate 8 clothing and equipment and supervising the duties assigned to 9 the recipients. Any able-bodied recipient who fails to perform 10 his or her assignment shall not be eligible for assistance 11 payments for a period equal to the time other recipients are 12 assigned to emergency or disaster relief work. 13 Section 2. Any other provision of this act or any other act 14 or regulation is repealed insofar as it is inconsistent with 15 this act. 16 Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
