                                     AN ACT

     1  Changing the name of the "Penrose Avenue Bridge" in the City of
     2     Philadelphia, County of Philadelphia and Commonwealth of
     3     Pennsylvania to the "George C. Platt Memorial Bridge."

     4     WHEREAS, George C. Platt was a Civil War Hero who was awarded
     5  the Congressional Medal of Honor for protecting the Union flag
     6  in the battle of Gettysburg, while killing the enemy with the
     7  flag staff; and
     8     WHEREAS, George C. Platt was an engineer who constructed many
     9  of Philadelphia's bridges and wharves; and
    10     WHEREAS, George C. Platt built the original Penrose Avenue
    11  Bridge; therefore
    12     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    13  hereby enacts as follows:
    14     Section 1.  The bridge known as the "Penrose Avenue Bridge"
    15  in the City of Philadelphia, County of Philadelphia and
    16  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is hereby designated as, and shall
    17  hereafter be known as, the "George C. Platt Memorial Bridge."
    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
