           HARPER, PISTELLA, COHEN, GIAMMARCO, KUKOVICH AND
           CALTAGIRONE, JUNE 18, 1979

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON FEDERAL-STATE RELATIONS,

                          In the House of Representatives, June 18, 1979

     1     WHEREAS, The recent incident at Three Mile Island nuclear
     2  power plant shows clearly the dangers inherent in using nuclear
     3  energy including the yet unsolved problem of adequately
     4  disposing of nuclear wastes; and
     5     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania alone has enough coal to meet America's
     6  energy requirements for the next 300 years; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Federal Government must provide the direct
     8  assistance or provide the financial climate to develop ways of
     9  using coal without harming the environment; and
    10     WHEREAS, The Federal Government must also consider the use of
    11  solar energy where feasible as well as the many other
    12  alternative sources of energy; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    14  of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the Federal
    15  Government to turn away from dependence on nuclear power and to
    16  consider alternative sources of energy for America's needs; and


     1  be it further
     2     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be sent to every
     3  member of the United States Congress from Pennsylvania and to
     4  President Carter.
