HOUSE RESOLUTION

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON FEDERAL-STATE RELATIONS,
           JUNE 15, 1979

                          In the House of Representatives, June 14, 1979

     1     The fossil fuel of this Nation dwindles while the per capita
     2  consumption of it and the exploitation of our natural resources
     3  increases.
     4     We recognize the critical importance of restoring and
     5  maintaining environmental quality for the overall welfare and
     6  development of society not only of this generation, but of those
     7  generations yet unborn; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
     9         (1)  Require its elementary and secondary school systems
    10     to offer a broader scope of environmental studies.
    11         (2)  Request that educational, advisory and consultative
    12     services related to the treatment or prevention of all forms
    13     of pollution.
    14         (3)  Promote opportunities for educating the public to
    15     conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, forest, air
    16     and other natural resources.
    17         (4)  Promote the enjoyment and wholesome utilization of

     1     natural resources and to provide for clean and pure drinking
     2     water.
     3         (5)  Promote the enjoyment and wholesome utilization of
     4     those resources.
     5         (6)  Continue to support, review and revise environmental
     6     legislation.
     7         (7)  Encourage public awareness of local, State and
     8     Federal programs and laws concerning environmental quality;
     9  and be it further
    10     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    11  of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the Congress of
    12  the United States to recognize that the future is now and that
    13  it give the Nation a new confidence and consciousness of a
    14  better way of life from this day to and through the turn of the
    15  century by designating 1980 as "The Year of the Environment";
    16  and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    18  the presiding officers of each House of the Congress of the
    19  United States and to each Senator and Representative from
    20  Pennsylvania in the Congress of the United States.
