AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for handicapped plates.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Section 1338 of Title 75, act of November 25,
6 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7 Statutes, is amended to read:
8 § 1338. Handicapped plate.
9 [On the application of any person who:
10 (1) does not have full use of a leg or both legs or an
11 arm or both arms;
12 (2) is blind; or
13 (3) is in loco parentis of a person specified in
14 paragraph (1) or (2);]
15 On the application of any person who is medically certified
16 as being 100% disabled or who is confined to a wheelchair, the
17 department shall issue a special registration plate for one
1 passenger car or other vehicle with a registered gross weight of
2 not more than 9,000 pounds, designating the vehicle so licensed
3 as being used by a handicapped person. Special plates for
4 handicapped persons may also be issued for vehicles operated
5 exclusively for the use and benefit of handicapped persons.
6 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days and shall
7 apply to applications for handicapped plates made on and after
8 that date.
