AN ACT 1 Amending the act of August 21, 1953 (P.L.1323, No.373), entitled 2 "An act concerning notaries public; and amending, revising, 3 consolidating and changing the law relating thereto," 4 providing for change of name of notaries public to apply 5 equally to men and women. 6 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 7 hereby enacts as follows: 8 Section 1. Section 10, act of August 21, 1953 (P.L.1323, 9 No.373), known as "The Notary Public Law," is amended to read: 10 Section 10. Change of Name.--Whenever the name of any notary 11 is changed by decree of court, or [whenever any female notary 12 shall marry, or is divorced and assumes her maiden name 13 thereafter] otherwise, such notary may continue to perform 14 official acts, in the name in which he or she was commissioned, 15 until the expiration of his or her term, but he or she shall, 16 within thirty (30) days after entry of such decree, or after 17 [marriage or divorce] such name change, if not by decree of
1 court, notify the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the recorder 2 of deeds of the county in which he or she maintains an office of 3 such change of name. The Secretary of the Commonwealth shall 4 mark the public records relating to the notary accordingly and 5 the recorder of deeds shall record the notification. Application 6 for reappointment of such notary shall be made in the new name. 7 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. L6L11HVY/19780H2219B2826 - 2 -
