AN ACT 1 Requiring advice of the need of a cytology (Papanicolaou) test 2 for uterine cancer detection of any woman CERTAIN WOMEN <-- 3 receiving hospital care, for the purpose of detecting uterine 4 cancer early and reducing the morbidity and mortality 5 therefrom. 6 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 7 hereby enacts as follows: 8 Section 1. Any female of childbearing age 18 YEARS OF AGE or <-- 9 older who is accepted for any reason, either as an inpatient or 10 outpatient, in any hospital or clinic defined as such by the 11 Commonwealth shall be advised of the purpose of and the 12 availability of tests for the detection of uterine cancer, of an 13 appropriate cytology test of the Papanicolaou type, to be 14 examined and reported upon by an appropriate, qualified 15 cytologist in a laboratory approved by the Department of Health. 16 Section 2. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is hereby 17 authorized to prepare directives to hospitals and clinics to 18 include in the patient medical records a section indicating 19 whether advisement of the intent and availability of tests is
1 applicable, the date when such advice and information was 2 offered and the name or initials of the person offering such 3 advice and information. The attending physician shall be 4 responsible for insuring that this form is completed. 5 Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days. L27L32JLW/19770H0274B1012 - 2 -
