                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of January 10, 1968 (1967 P.L.925, No.417),
     2     entitled "An act relating to officers and employes of the
     3     General Assembly; fixing the number, qualifications,
     4     compensation, mileage and duties of the officers and employes
     5     of the Senate and of the House of Representatives; providing
     6     for their election or appointment, term of office, or of
     7     service, removal and manner of filling vacancies; fixing the
     8     salary of the Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau;
     9     providing for compilation of lists of employes," further
    10     providing for the number of employes of the Legislature and
    11     their compensation.

    12     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    13  hereby enacts as follows:
    14     Section 1.  Clauses (24), (33), (41), (53) and (58) of
    15  section 23, act of January 10, 1968 (1967 P.L.925, No.417),
    16  referred to as the Legislative Officers and Employes Law, are
    17  amended to read:
    18     Section 23.  The following employes of the House of
    19  Representatives shall be appointed by the Chief Clerk to serve
    20  at his pleasure and receive the compensation and perform the


     1  duties herein specified:
     2     * * *
     3     (24)  Eight expert typists at [a per diem compensation of
     4  twenty-two ($22)] an annual salary of eight thousand dollars
     5  ($8,000), each;
     6     * * *
     7     (33)  [Twelve] Fifty-two stenographers, each of whom shall
     8  have successfully completed the prescribed course of a four year
     9  public high school or its equivalent and, as a part thereof or
    10  in addition thereto, shall have successfully completed a course
    11  of not less than eight months in shorthand and typewriting at [a
    12  per diem compensation of fifteen dollars fifty cents ($15.50),
    13  each, and twenty stenographers having the same qualifications as
    14  above at an annual salary of five thousand nine hundred forty
    15  dollars ($5,940)] at an annual salary of eight thousand five
    16  hundred dollars ($8,500), each;

    18     (41)  Twenty-five stenographers, each of whom shall have
    19  successfully completed the prescribed course of a four year
    20  public high school or its equivalent and, as a part thereof or
    21  in addition thereto, shall have successfully completed a course
    22  of not less than eight months in shorthand and typewriting, at
    23  [a per diem compensation of fifteen dollars fifty cents
    24  ($15.50)] an annual salary of eight thousand five hundred
    25  dollars ($8,500), each;

    27     (53)  Six clerk typists at an annual salary of [four thousand
    28  seven hundred fifty-two dollars ($4,752)] seven thousand five
    29  hundred dollars ($7,500), each;

     1     (58)  Ten stenographers at an annual salary of [five thousand
     2  seven hundred ninety-two dollars ($5,792)] eight thousand five
     3  hundred dollars ($8,500);
