AN ACT
1 Making an appropriation to the Department of Justice for the
2 payment of certain moral claims against the Commonwealth.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. The sum of $40,000, or as much thereof as may be
6 necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the Department
7 of Justice of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the payment
8 of moral claims against the Commonwealth arising from the
9 wrongful imprisonment for approximately 26 years as a result of
10 a conviction, based only on erroneous and improper evidence at a
11 trial for the alleged commission of a crime and for
12 reimbursement of any loss due to personal injury, including, but
13 not limited to, the loss of four fingers, reputation, goodwill,
14 savings, attorney's fees and other fees in defense against
15 prosecution for the aforesaid crime as well as any other
16 physical or mental deprivation, including the deprivation or
17 personal or civil rights.
18 Section 2. Payment from said appropriation shall be made by
1 requisition of the Department of Justice of the Commonwealth of
2 Pennsylvania upon proof of claims to the satisfaction of the
3 Department of Justice and the State Treasurer.
4 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
