                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 22, 1945 (P.L.837, No.337), entitled, as
     2     amended, "An act providing for and requiring in certain cases
     3     preference in appointments to and retention in public
     4     position or on public works for honorably discharged persons
     5     who served in the military or naval service during any war or
     6     armed conflict in which the United States engaged or served
     7     therein since July 27, 1953, or hereafter so serves including
     8     service in Vietnam; and in certain cases for the widows and
     9     wives of such persons," further providing for the number of
    10     points to be added to veterans' scores.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  Section 3, act of May 22, 1945 (P.L.837, No.337),
    14  entitled, as amended, "An act providing for and requiring in
    15  certain cases preference in appointments to and retention in
    16  public position or on public works for honorably discharged
    17  persons who served in the military or naval service during any
    18  war or armed conflict in which the United States engaged or
    19  served therein since July 27, 1953, or hereafter so serves
    20  including service in Vietnam; and in certain cases for the
    21  widows and wives of such persons," is amended to read:

     1     Section 3.  Whenever any soldier shall successfully pass a
     2  civil service appointment or promotional examination for a
     3  public position under the Commonwealth, or any political
     4  subdivision thereof, and shall thus establish that he possesses
     5  the qualifications required by law for appointment to or
     6  promotion in such public position, such soldier's examination
     7  shall be marked or graded an additional ten points above the
     8  mark or grade credited for the examination if he is disabled, or
     9  seven and one-half points if he served on hazardous duty, or
    10  five points if he is not disabled and did not serve on hazardous
    11  duty, and the total mark or grade thus obtained shall represent
    12  the final mark or grade of such soldier, and shall determine his
    13  standing on any eligible or promotional list, certified or
    14  furnished to the appointing or promoting power.
