AN ACT
1 Amending the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), entitled "An
2 act consolidating and revising the Vehicle Code, the Tractor
3 Code, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Act and
4 other acts relating to the ownership, possession and use of
5 vehicles and tractors," requiring school buses to be equipped
6 with tire chains.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 840, act of April 29,
10 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), known as "The Vehicle Code," is amended by
11 adding a clause to read:
12 Section 840. School Buses; Safety Requirements.--

14 (b) No person shall own or operate a school bus carrying
15 school children on the highways of this Commonwealth that, in
16 addition to the other requirements of this act, does not conform
17 with the following:

19 (8.1) Every school bus shall be equipped with at least one
20 (1) set of tire chains of a type approved by the secretary.

2 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall
3 apply to school buses operated on and after September 1, 1975.
4 Penalty.--Any person violating any of the provisions of this
5 section, or standards or regulations promulgated hereunder,
6 shall, upon summary conviction before a magistrate, be sentenced
7 to pay a fine of not less than ten dollars ($10.00) and not more
8 than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) and costs of prosecution, and,
9 in default of the payment thereof, shall undergo imprisonment
10 for not less than five (5) days and not more than ten (10) days.
11 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall
12 apply to school buses operated on and after September 1, 1975.
