AN ACT 1 Amending the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), entitled "An 2 act consolidating and revising the Vehicle Code, the Tractor 3 Code, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Act and 4 other acts relating to the ownership, possession and use of 5 vehicles and tractors," providing further exemptions from 6 certain fees. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Subsection (a) of section 729, act of April 29, 10 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), known as "The Vehicle Code," amended 11 October 18, 1972 (P.L.975, No.239), is amended to read: 12 Section 729. Exemptions from Fees.-- 13 (a) No fee shall be charged for a certificate of title or 14 registration of motor vehicles, tractors, fire department 15 equipment, trailers and semi-trailers owned by and used 16 exclusively in the performance of the duties of (1) the Federal 17 Government, (2) any state, other than Pennsylvania, which issues 18 titles or registrations to this Commonwealth without charge, (3) 19 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, (4) any city, borough, 20 incorporated town, township, county, county institution district
1 or school district of this Commonwealth, (5) the Civil Air 2 Patrol, duly authorized volunteer fire force, in the 3 extinguishment and prevention of fires or in rescue work, 4 hospital, humane society, or anticruelty society in this 5 Commonwealth, and nonprofit youth centers, (6) the American Red 6 Cross, (7) churches and (8) Priests, Ministers, Rabbis and 7 Evangelists who preach the Word of the Lord [(8)] (9) Girls 8 Scouts of America, [(9)] (10) Boy Scouts of America, [(10)] (11) 9 Salvation Army, [(11)] (12) duly chartered post organization or 10 combination of organizations of the American Legion, Veterans of 11 Foreign Wars, Philippine Pacific War Veterans, Navy Club of the 12 United States, United States Army Ambulance Corps, Disabled 13 American Veterans, Veterans of World War I of the U. S. A., 14 Inc., American Veterans of World War II (AMVETS), the Marine 15 Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Jewish War 16 Veterans, Catholic War Veterans, Inc., the Italian American War 17 Veterans of the United States, Incorporated, or United Spanish 18 War Veterans, of this Commonwealth, or La Societe Des Forty 19 Hommes et Eight Chevaux, and organizations and units of the 20 Pennsylvania National Guard, [(12)] (13) mine or industrial 21 ambulances, [(13)] (14) the Y.M.C.A. and the Y.M.H.A., [(14)] 22 (15) the Y.W.C.A. and the Y.W.H.A., [(15)] (16) any Jewish 23 Community Center, [(16)] 17 ambassadors, ministers, foreign 24 consuls, general consuls and vice consuls who are nationals of 25 the country appointing them, and who are assigned to foreign 26 consulates in this Commonwealth: Provided, That American 27 consular officers of equal rank, who are citizens of the United 28 States, and who exercise their official functions at American 29 consulates in such foreign country, are granted reciprocal 30 exemptions, [(17)] (18) nonprofit corporations comprising 19750H0206B0227 - 2 -
1 musical marching groups of youths. No fee shall be charged for 2 certificates of title or registration of one (1) motor vehicle 3 owned and used by any veteran who served in the armed forces of 4 the United States during any period of war or armed conflict in 5 which it was engaged and who lost a limb or became totally blind 6 in both eyes or became paralyzed as a result of such service. 7 All such vehicles, or tractors, except those owned and used by 8 the Federal Government shall be titled and registered, and shall 9 display registration plates as is now provided for privately 10 owned motor vehicles, tractors, trailers and semi-trailers. 11 All vehicles titled and registered under the provisions of 12 this subsection shall be operated and used exclusively for the 13 purpose because of which payment of fees was not required. 14 Penalty.--Any person violating any of the provisions of this 15 subsection, shall, upon summary conviction before a magistrate, 16 be sentenced to pay a fine of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) and 17 costs of prosecution, and in default of the payment thereof, 18 shall undergo imprisonment for not more than ten (10) days. 19 * * * L23L61CVV/19750H0206B0227 - 3 -
