                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for the employment of
     6     school guidance counselors.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the "Public School Code of 1949," is amended by adding a
    11  section to read:
    12     Section 1113.  School Guidance Counselor.--(a) For the school
    13  year 1975-1976, and each school year thereafter, each school
    14  district shall employ certificated school guidance counselors to
    15  provide guidance and counseling services to all pupils enrolled
    16  in the public schools, from grades kindergarten through twelve.
    17  School guidance counselors shall perform such duties as shall be
    18  determined by standards established by the State Board of
    19  Education with the advice and counsel of the Department of


     1  Education, in order to insure comprehensive and coordinated
     2  programs of guidance services complementary to the instructional
     3  process.
     4     (b)  Every school guidance counselor employed in the public
     5  schools of this Commonwealth shall be certificated by the
     6  Department of Education in accordance with standards established
     7  by the State Board of Education.
     8     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
