AN ACT 1 Amending the act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), entitled <-- 2 "An act providing for and reorganizing the conduct of the 3 executive and administrative work of the Commonwealth by the 4 Executive Department thereof and the administrative 5 departments, boards, commissions, and officers thereof, 6 including the boards of trustees of State Normal Schools, or 7 Teachers Colleges; abolishing, creating, reorganizing or 8 authorizing the reorganization of certain administrative 9 departments, boards, and commissions; defining the powers and 10 duties of the Governor and other executive and administrative 11 officers, and of the several administrative departments, 12 boards, commissions, and officers; fixing the salaries of the 13 Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and certain other executive 14 and administrative officers; providing for the appointment of 15 certain administrative officers, and of all deputies and 16 other assistants and employes in certain departments, boards, 17 and commissions; and prescribing the manner in which the 18 number and compensation of the deputies and all other 19 assistants and employes of certain departments, boards and 20 commissions shall be determined," authorizing the Department 21 of Education to enter into contracts with fire companies for 22 the protection of property of State colleges. 23 AMENDING THE ACT OF MARCH 10, 1949 (P.L.30, NO.14), ENTITLED "AN <-- 24 ACT RELATING TO THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, INCLUDING CERTAIN 25 PROVISIONS APPLICABLE AS WELL TO PRIVATE AND PAROCHIAL 26 SCHOOLS; AMENDING, REVISING, CONSOLIDATING AND CHANGING THE 27 LAWS RELATING THERETO," ADDING TO THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF 28 PRESIDENTS OF CERTAIN STATE COLLEGES AND STATE UNIVERSITIES. 29 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 30 hereby enacts as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1309, act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, <-- 2 No.175), known as "The Administrative Code of 1929," added 3 August 10, 1951 (P.L.1214, No.275), is amended to read: 4 Section 1309. Bureau of Higher Education.--(a) In addition 5 to such other bureaus as may be created or named in the 6 Department of Public Instruction, there shall be a Bureau of 7 Higher Education, which shall be in charge of a deputy 8 superintendent, and which shall have the responsibility for all 9 matters relating to higher education assigned thereto by law or 10 by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. 11 (b) The bureau shall have the power to enter into contracts 12 with fire companies for the purpose of providing fire protection 13 to the property of State colleges and State universities. 14 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. 15 SECTION 1. SECTION 2004.1, ACT OF MARCH 10, 1949 (P.L.30, <-- 16 NO.14), KNOWN AS THE "PUBLIC SCHOOL CODE OF 1949," ADDED 17 FEBRUARY 17, 1970 (P.L.24, NO.13), IS AMENDED TO READ: 18 SECTION 2004.1. MANAGEMENT OF STATE COLLEGES AND STATE 19 UNIVERSITIES WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT.--SUBJECT TO THE STATED 20 AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD OF STATE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY DIRECTORS 21 AND THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES, THE PRESIDENT OF EACH OF THE SEVERAL 22 STATE COLLEGES AND STATE UNIVERSITIES SHALL ADMINISTER THE 23 INSTITUTION. EACH PRESIDENT SHALL HAVE THE POWER AND HIS DUTY 24 SHALL BE: 25 * * * 26 (16) AT HIS DISCRETION, TO MAKE CONTRIBUTION TO THOSE 27 VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANIES THAT PROVIDE FIRE PROTECTION TO THE 28 PROPERTY OF STATE COLLEGES AND STATE UNIVERSITIES, SUBJECT TO 29 THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. 30 SECTION 2.
