AN ACT
1 Making an appropriation to the Trustees of the Jefferson Medical
2 College and Hospital of Philadelphia for a comprehensive
3 program relating to Tay-Sachs disease.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. The sum of $50,000, or as much thereof as may be
7 necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the Trustees
8 of the Jefferson Medical College and Hospital of Philadelphia
9 for the fiscal year July 1, 1980 to June 30, 1981 for a
10 comprehensive program relating to persons with Tay-Sachs
11 disease.
12 Section 2. Payment to the Jefferson Medical College and
13 Hospital of Philadelphia on account of the appropriation
14 relating to Tay-Sachs disease as provided for in section 1,
15 shall be conditioned upon a program which shall include the
16 detection of Tay-Sachs disease in the community, counselling of
17 individuals and families, education of the public institution,
18 coordination of research into the treatment for Tay-Sachs
1 disease and the expansion of genetic diagnostic services and
2 treatment of persons with the disease.
3 Section 3. All sums of money paid to the Trustees of the
4 Jefferson Medical College and Hospital pursuant to the
5 appropriation of the act of July 11, 1980 (No.60A), entitled "An
6 act making an appropriation to the Trustees of the Jefferson
7 Medical College and Hospital of Philadelphia for a comprehensive
8 program relating to Tay-Sachs disease," shall be credited toward
9 and deducted from the amount appropriated in this act.
10 Section 4. The act of July 11, 1980 (No.60A), entitled "An
11 act making an appropriation to the Trustees of the Jefferson
12 Medical College and Hospital of Philadelphia for a comprehensive
13 program relating to Tay-Sachs disease" is repealed.
14 Section 5. This act shall take effect immediately.
