AN ACT 1 Designating May 15th as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" in 2 Pennsylvania; designating that week of May during which May 3 15th occurs as "Police Week" in Pennsylvania; and requiring 4 that the flags of the United States and this Commonwealth be 5 flown at half-mast on May 15th. 6 WHEREAS, Law enforcement is one of the most essential 7 services provided to the citizens of our great Nation; and 8 WHEREAS, The peace officers of our Nation serve the citizens 9 of their communities with dedication and integrity; and 10 WHEREAS, These men and women stand guard in our midst, night 11 and day, to protect us through enforcement of our laws; and 12 WHEREAS, The devotion and intrepidity of our Nation's peace 13 officers and the sacrifices of officers who have been killed in 14 the line of duty should not go unrecognized; and 15 WHEREAS, Public Law 87-726, 36 U.S.C. § 167, authorizes the 16 President to designate May 15th of each year as "Peace Officers 17 Memorial Day." 18 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
1 hereby enacts as follows: 2 Section 1. Peace Officers Memorial Day; Police Week. 3 May 15th is designated as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" in 4 Pennsylvania in honor of peace officers who have been killed in 5 the line of duty and designate that week of May during which May 6 15th occurs as "Police Week" in Pennsylvania in recognition of 7 our country's courageous peace officers. 8 Section 2. Display of flags. 9 The flag of the United States and the flag of this 10 Commonwealth shall be flown at half-mast from all public grounds 11 and buildings of this Commonwealth on May 15th to honor peace 12 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. 13 Section 3.
