1Amending the act of August 15, 1961 (P.L.987, No.442), entitled
2"An act relating to public works contracts; providing for
3prevailing wages; imposing duties upon the Secretary of Labor
4and Industry; providing remedies, penalties and repealing
5existing laws," excluding political subdivisions from the
6act; authorizing optional prevailing wage ordinances; and
7making repeals.

8The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9hereby enacts as follows:

10Section 1. Section 2(4) of the act of August 15, 1961
11(P.L.987, No.442), known as the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage
12Act, is amended to read:

13Section 2. Definitions.--As used in this act--

15(4) "Public body" means the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
16[any of its political subdivisions,] any authority created by
17the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and any
18instrumentality or agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 
19but shall not include a political subdivision or any authority, 
20agency or instrumentality created by one or more political 

1subdivisions.

3Section 2. The act is amended by adding a section to read:

4Section 13.1. Local Option.--Notwithstanding any provision
5of this act, a political subdivision may elect, by ordinance or
6resolution, to place itself within the jurisdiction of this act.

7Section 3. Repeals are as follows:

8(1) The General Assembly declares that the repeal under
9paragraph (2) is necessary to effectuate this act.

10(2) Section 752 of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30,
11No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is repealed.

12(3) All other acts and parts of acts are repealed
13insofar as they are inconsistent with this act.

14Section 4. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
