A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the month of May 2014 as "Community Action Month" in 
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Community action agencies were established under the
4Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 (Public Law 88-452, 42 U.S.C. §
52701 et seq.), a statute directing our nation's human and
6financial resources in the fight against poverty; and

7WHEREAS, Fighting poverty at the local level through direct
8aid and innovative programs and partnerships, community action
9agencies have fostered self-sufficiency among persons and
10families with limited incomes for 50 years; and

11WHEREAS, Community action agencies, as locally based service
12providers partnering with the Commonwealth, have a crucial role
13in integrating private, nonprofit and community resources and
14welfare systems with the goal of helping low-income
15Pennsylvanians improve their living conditions and attain
16dignity; and

17WHEREAS, The Senate recognizes the importance of promoting

1economic security by providing support and opportunities to
2directly address the needs of persons and families with limited
3incomes; and

4WHEREAS, The Senate applauds the hard work, pragmatism, cost-
5effectiveness and continuing commitment of community action
6agencies in this Commonwealth; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2014 as
8"Community Action Month" in Pennsylvania.
