A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating May 21, 2014, as "Emergency Medical Services for
2Children (EMSC) Day" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC)
4supports emergency medical services (EMS), the community-based
5public service whose presence is vital to children in need; and

6WHEREAS, The needs of children are different than the needs
7of adults in medical emergencies; and

8WHEREAS, EMSC promotes the high-level emergency care given by
9EMS providers with pediatric emergency skills; and

10WHEREAS, EMSC assists in training providers to use advanced
11technical equipment and services to save the life of a child;
12and

13WHEREAS, EMS providers are unceasingly prepared to respond to
14children who access the system and return them to an optimum
15level of health; and

16WHEREAS, EMSC works with emergency physicians, emergency

1nurses, social workers, psychologists, rescue personnel,
2emergency medical technicians, paramedics, prehospital nurses,
3air medical personnel, emergency medical responders, emergency
4vehicle operators, firefighters, police officers, educators,
5dispatchers, administrators and others to identify and address
6the issues surrounding the provision of optimal pediatric care;
7and

8WHEREAS, EMSC assists in the development of training programs
9and guidelines for emergency care providers so that children
10with special health care needs receive timely, appropriate care;
11and

12WHEREAS, It is proper and timely to recognize the value and
13accomplishments of such dedicated men and women by designating
14EMSC Day; therefore be it

15RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 21, 2014, as
16"Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day," with the
17theme "EMS: Dedicated. For Life" and encourage the community to
18observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies and
19activities.
