SENATE RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION

Proclaiming April 2010 as the "Month of the Young Child" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Association for the Education of

Young Children (PAEYC), an affiliate of the National Association

for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is working to

improve early childhood education, which is critical to the

growth and healthy development of young children; and

WHEREAS, PAEYC is working to improve and enhance supports to

early learning services, including professional development

opportunities for staff, transition activities for children

entering Kindergarten that can provide a foundation of learning

for children and advocacy to educate elected officials about the

importance of the early years; and

WHEREAS, The "Week of the Young Child" is a national annual

celebration first sponsored in 1971 by NAEYC and now expanded as

the "Month of the Young Child" in southwestern Pennsylvania with

the theme "Early Years Are Learning Years"; and

WHEREAS, Public policies that reflect early learning for all

young children are crucial to Pennsylvania's future; and

WHEREAS, Investing in young children benefits all; therefore

be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate proclaim April 2010 as the "Month

of the Young Child" in Pennsylvania, and encourage all the

residents of this Commonwealth to support early childhood

education.
