AN ACT

Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,

2

as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class

3

and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and

4

changing the laws relating thereto," further providing for

5

certain disabled employees of jail and workhouses and

6

salaries and expenses to be paid.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

8

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Section 1531 of the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.

10

723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code, is amended

11

to read:

Section 1531.  Employes of Jails and Workhouses Disabled by

13

Violence, Injuries, Illness or Disease Suffered in the

14

Performance of Duty; Salaries and Expenses to be Paid.--Every

15

guard, matron, nurse or other employe who comes in contact with

16

inmates of any jail or workhouse, who is incapacitated as a

17

result of violence by an inmate, injuries, illnesses or disease

18

suffered while in the performance of his duties, shall be paid

19

by the county by which they are employed their full rate of

20

salary as fixed by the salary board until the disability arising

therefrom has ceased. [, but the period of such salary payments

2

by the county shall not exceed the period during which such

3

employe is entitled to compensation for the injury, received

4

under the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act.] All

5

medical and hospital bills incurred in connection with any such

6

injuries, illnesses or disease shall be paid by such county. All

7

benefits under the Workmen's Compensation Law which shall be

8

received or collected by any such employe during the period he

9

has received salary for temporary disability shall be paid over

10

to the county and into the treasury thereof. If any such payment

11

or payments shall not be so made by such employe, the amount so

12

directed to be paid the county shall be deducted from any salary

13

which shall then or thereafter become due and owing to such

14

employe.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
