| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Commemorating December 7, 2011, as "Pearl Harbor Remembrance |
2 | Day." |
3 | WHEREAS, December 7, 2011, marks the 70th anniversary of the |
4 | Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, an event which precipitated the |
5 | United States' entry into World War II; and |
6 | WHEREAS, More than 2,400 military and civilian lives were |
7 | lost during the 110-minute attack which began at 7:55 a.m. on |
8 | December 7, 1941; and |
9 | WHEREAS, During the attack, 19 ships of the United States |
10 | Pacific Fleet were sunk or damaged and 188 United States |
11 | aircraft were destroyed; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth and the United |
13 | States recognize the bravery of those who lost their lives or |
14 | suffered injuries on that day of infamy; and |
15 | WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor this anniversary by |
16 | calling upon the people of this Commonwealth, the public schools |

1 | and other educational institutions and patriotic and veterans |
2 | organizations to commemorate "Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day"; |
3 | therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Senate commemorate December 7, 2011, as |
5 | "Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day"; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage local governments and |
7 | communities throughout this Commonwealth to conduct appropriate |
8 | "Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day" observances to ensure that the |
9 | many sacrifices of that day are not forgotten. |
