AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, providing an exception to the inspection required 3 of certain vehicles. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 4703 of Title 75, act of November 25, 7 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated 8 Statutes, is amended to read: 9 § 4703. Operation of vehicle without official certificate of 10 inspection. 11 (a) General rule.--No registered motor vehicle shall be 12 driven and no registered trailer shall be moved on a highway 13 unless the vehicle displays a currently valid certificate of 14 inspection and approval. 15 (b) Exceptions.--Subsection (a) does not apply to: 16 (1) Special mobile equipment. 17 (2) Implements of husbandry. 18 (3) Motor vehicles being towed. 19 (4) Motor vehicles being operated or trailers being
1 towed by an official inspection station owner or employee for 2 the purpose of inspection. 3 (5) Registered motor vehicles during the period of two 4 years from the date of their initial registration. 5 (c) Display of unauthorized certificate of inspection.--No 6 certificate of inspection and approval shall be displayed unless 7 an official inspection has been made and the vehicle is in 8 conformance with the provisions of this chapter. 9 (d) Authority of police.--Any police officer may stop any 10 motor vehicle or trailer and require the owner or operator to 11 display an official certificate of inspection and approval for 12 the vehicle being operated. A police officer may summarily 13 remove an unlawfully issued certificate of inspection from any 14 vehicle. 15 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. G24L60ML/19780H2800B3823 - 2 -
