                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581),
     2     entitled "An act concerning boroughs, and revising, amending
     3     and consolidating the law relating to boroughs," further
     4     providing for when president or vice-president of council to
     5     act as mayor.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 1030 of the act of February 1, 1966 (1965
     9  P.L.1656, No.581), known as The Borough Code, amended May 9,
    10  1980 (P.L.120, No.47), is amended to read:
    11     Section 1030.  When President or Vice-President of Council to
    12  Act as Mayor.--Whenever the mayor is absent or incapacitated, or
    13  there is a vacancy in the office, the duties of [his] the office
    14  shall be discharged by the president of council, or in the
    15  absence or incapacity of the president of council, by the vice-
    16  president of council. While discharging the duties of mayor, the
    17  president or vice-president of council shall be entitled to the
    18  same salary as the mayor would receive, and, during the time


     1  such salary is paid to the president or vice-president of
     2  council as acting mayor, the mayor shall not be paid
     3  compensation. The president or vice-president of council, when
     4  acting as mayor, shall have no power to veto any proposed
     5  ordinance or to break a tie, but shall have power to vote as
     6  councilman.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
