                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581),
     2     entitled "An act concerning boroughs, and revising, amending
     3     and consolidating the law relating to boroughs," further
     4     providing for tax levies.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1302(8) and (9) of the act of February 1,
     8  1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581), known as The Borough Code, added
     9  May 10, 1974 (P.L.293, No.91), are amended and the section is
    10  amended by adding clauses to read:
    11     Section 1302.  Tax Levy.--The council of the borough shall
    12  have power, by ordinance, to levy and collect annually, a tax,
    13  not exceeding thirty mills for general borough purposes, unless
    14  the council by majority action shall, upon due cause shown by
    15  resolution, petition the court of common pleas, in which case
    16  the court may order a rate of not more than five mills
    17  additional to be levied and in addition thereto any of the
    18  following taxes:

     2     (8)  To establish and/or maintain a local library or to
     3  maintain or aid in the maintenance of a local library
     4  established by deed, gift or testamentary provision, for the use
     5  of the residents of the borough, not exceeding three mills, such
     6  additional millage permitted only following a favorable
     7  referendum on the matter held in accordance with the act of June
     8  14, 1961 (P.L.324)[.];
     9     (9)  For the purpose of supporting ambulance and rescue
    10  squads serving the borough, not to exceed one-half mill[.];
    11     (10)  To provide police support services to the borough, not
    12  to exceed five mills;
    13     (11)  For the purpose of providing trash removal services
    14  provided by the borough, not to exceed two mills;
    15     (12)  To provide liability insurance for the borough, not to
    16  exceed two mills.

    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
