                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, increasing the penalty for damaging traffic-control
     3     devices; and requiring the payment of replacement costs.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6126 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 6126.  Interference with devices, signs or signals.
     9     (a)  General rule.--No person shall, without lawful
    10  authority, attempt to or in fact, alter, twist, obstruct,
    11  deface, injure, knock down, remove or interfere with the
    12  effective operation of any official traffic-control device, or
    13  any railroad sign or signal, or any inscription, shield or
    14  insignia thereon or any other part thereof.
    15     (b)  Penalty.--A person violating this section commits a
    16  summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay
    17  a fine of $50. In addition to the fine, a person convicted of
    18  the offense shall be ordered to pay to the Commonwealth or the

     1  municipality, whichever erected the traffic-control device, the
     2  cost of replacing a damaged traffic-control device.
     3     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
