AN ACT
1 Amending the act of August 22, 1953 (P.L.1344, No.383), entitled
2 "An act relating to marriage; and amending, revising,
3 consolidating and changing the law relating thereto," fixing
4 a legal age for common law marriage.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Section 23, act of August 22, 1953 (P.L.1344,
8 No.383), known as "The Marriage Law," is amended to read:
9 Section 23. Common Law Marriage.--Nothing herein contained
10 shall be construed to change the existing law with regard to
11 common law marriage, except with regard to the age of the
12 parties. A common law marriage hereafter entered into when
13 either of the parties is under sixteen (16) years of age is
14 void.
15 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
