| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An |
2 | act relating to the public school system, including certain |
3 | provisions applicable as well to private and parochial |
4 | schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the |
5 | laws relating thereto," in terms and courses of study, |
6 | further providing for physical education. |
7 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
8 | hereby enacts as follows: |
9 | Section 1. Section 1512.1 of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L. |
10 | 30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added July |
11 | 11, 2006 (P.L.1092, No.114), is amended to read: |
12 | Section 1512.1. Physical Education.--[The] (a) Subject to |
13 | the provisions of subsection (b), the board of school directors |
14 | in every school district shall establish a curriculum aligned |
15 | with Pennsylvania academic standards on health, safety and |
16 | physical education that pursuant to 22 Pa. Code § 4.27 (relating |
17 | to physical education and athletics), requires pupils enrolled |
18 | in the district to participate in physical education. |
19 | (b) The curriculum under subsection (a): |
20 | (1) Shall require pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade |

1 | to participate in one hundred fifty (150) minutes of physical |
2 | education during each school week. |
3 | (2) Shall require pupils in sixth through eighth grade to |
4 | participate in two hundred twenty-five (225) minutes of physical |
5 | education each school week. |
6 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
