AN ACT 1 Amending the act of July 19, 1974 (P.L.489, No.176), entitled 2 "An act providing for a compensation system for persons 3 injured in motor vehicle accidents; requiring insurance for 4 all motor vehicles required to be registered in Pennsylvania; 5 defining compensable damage in motor vehicle accident cases; 6 establishing an assigned claims plan; providing for 7 arbitration; imposing powers and duties on courts, the 8 Department of Transportation and the Insurance Commissioner; 9 prohibiting certain discrimination; and providing penalties," 10 further providing for the obligations of recreational vehicle 11 owners upon termination of security. 12 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 13 hereby enacts as follows: 14 Section 1. The definition of "motor vehicle" in section 103, 15 act of July 19, 1974 (P.L.489, No.176), known as the 16 "Pennsylvania No-fault Motor Vehicle Insurance Act," is amended 17 and a definition is added to read: 18 § 103. Definitions. 19 As used in this act: 20 * * *
1 "Motor vehicle" means a vehicle of a kind required to be 2 registered under [the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), 3 known as The Vehicle Code.] Chapter 13 of Title 75 of the 4 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes (relating to registration of 5 vehicles). 6 * * * 7 "Recreational vehicle" means and includes farm trucks, house 8 trailers, motor homes, motorcycles, recreational trailers and 9 truck-campers. 10 * * * 11 Section 2. Section 104 of the act is amended by adding a 12 subsection to read: 13 § 104. Required motor vehicle insurance. 14 * * * 15 (e) Owners of recreational vehicles.--The provisions of 16 subsection (d) shall not apply to an owner of a recreational 17 vehicle who ceases to maintain the security required in 18 accordance with this act because he does not intend to operate 19 the recreational vehicle for the period of time that he is not 20 maintaining the security need not surrender the registration 21 certificate and license plates to the department if he notifies 22 the department of his intention not to operate the recreational 23 vehicle during the time he does not maintain security and of his 24 intention to maintain security, during the period of time that 25 he operates the recreational vehicle. The owner of a 26 recreational vehicle may not operate it or permit its operation 27 until security has again been furnished. 28 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
