                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, authorizing the employment of plumbers
     3     to install, maintain or replace gas service lines.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 66 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 1510.  Plumbers may be employed to install, maintain or
     9             replace gas service lines.
    10     When a gas utility company levies a specific charge to a
    11  customer for the installation, maintenance or replacement of gas
    12  service lines, the customer shall have the right to contract
    13  with a qualified registered plumber for the installation,
    14  maintenance or replacement of the lines if the plumber agrees to
    15  meet all recognized safety standards applicable to the
    16  installation, maintenance or replacement and he agrees to meet
    17  required standards for surface restoration of any public street

     1  or highway. The utility customer shall have the right to demand
     2  that the plumber post a performance bond for the faithful
     3  performance of his services.
     4     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
