A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the Order of the United Commercial Travelers of
2America and its Pennsylvania councils.
3WHEREAS, The Order of United Commercial Travelers of America
4is a nonprofit organization of volunteer members in the United
5States which focuses on helping citizens with intellectual
6disabilities; and
7WHEREAS, The councils of the Order of the United Commercial
8Travelers of America work with community leaders to improve
9education, housing and self-development programs for people with
10special needs, aiding them in meeting new people and learning
11new skills; and
12WHEREAS, The Order of the United Commercial Travelers of
13America help many individuals by supporting fundraising events
14for research for cancer, intellectual disabilities and other
15special needs; and
16WHEREAS, The Order of the United Commercial Travelers of
1America created the United Commercial Travelers Scholarship
2Program to provide scholarships to students and teachers seeking
3degrees or certification in the education of people with
4intellectual disabilities; and
5WHEREAS, Established in 2000, Join Hands Day is an annual day
6of service held nationwide by the councils of the Order of the
7United Commercial Travelers of America, which promotes the
8development of relationships between young people and adults
9working together in service to the community; and
10WHEREAS, In 1888, the first council of the Order of the
11Commercial Travelers of America was established in Columbus,
12Ohio, and has since expanded nationwide, including several
13successful local councils in Pennsylvania; and
14WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Councils of the Order of United
15Commercial Travelers of America actively support their
16communities by volunteering their assistance to local charities
17and causes in their communities, holding a variety of
18fundraising events and granting scholarships to deserving local
19youths; therefore be it
20RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
21Order of the United Commercial Travelers of America and the
22Pennsylvania councils for their support of the community on the
23occasion of the 111th Annual Session of the Grand Council of
24Pennsylvania, to be held on May 9, 2014, in Williamsport,
25Pennsylvania.
