A RESOLUTION

Offering condolences to the loved ones of United States Marine

2

Lance Corporal Michael G. Plank, who died on June 9, 2010,

3

while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Helmand

4

Province, Afghanistan.

5

WHEREAS, United States Marine Lance Corporal Michael G.

6

Plank, 25, a 2004 graduate of Elkland High School, Tioga County,

7

died June 9, 2010, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom

8

in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and

9

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Plank entered the Marine Corps on

10

February 23, 2009, and was a combat engineer assigned to the 7th

Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine

2

Expeditionary Force, based in Camp Pendleton, California; and

3

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Plank was deployed to Afghanistan in

4

March, and it was his first overseas assignment; and

5

WHEREAS, Funeral services in remembrance of Lance Corporal

6

Plank took place in Parkhurst Memorial Presbyterian Church,

7

Elkland, June 21, 2010; and

8

WHEREAS, On June 20, as his body returned home, and on June

9

21, the day of the funeral, the streets of Elkland were lined

10

with people holding American flags and signs in memory of Lance

11

Corporal Plank who, according to friends and family, had a "big

12

heart" and was a proud Marine; and

13

WHEREAS, The Reverend Larry O'Dell, pastor at Parkhurst

14

Memorial Presbyterian Church, accurately described Lance

15

Corporal Plank as a "hero"; and

16

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Plank is survived by his mother,

17

Kathy Parker, of Cameron Mills, New York; his father, Gerald, of

18

Lawrenceville, Tioga County; and his brothers Jerry and Dominic,

19

of Westfield, Tioga County; and

20

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Plank gave his life in the courageous

21

service of his country; therefore be it

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives offer condolences

23

to the loved ones of United States Marine Lance Corporal Michael

24

G. Plank, who died June 9, 2010, while supporting Operation

25

Enduring Freedom in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
