                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for the use of plates on school
     3     buses.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1343 of Title 75, act of November 25,
     7  1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes, is amended to read:
     9  § 1343.  Use of school bus plates.
    10     (a)  General rule.--A motor vehicle bearing school bus
    11  registration plates shall be used exclusively for the
    12  transportation of children and no more than five chaperons to or
    13  from public, private, parochial or Sunday school or in
    14  connection with any public, private, parochial or Sunday school-
    15  related activity. Except when transporting children to and from
    16  public, private, parochial or Sunday school or public, private,
    17  parochial or Sunday school-related activities, the words "school
    18  bus" on the front and rear of the vehicle shall be concealed and
    19  the red and amber visual signals shall not be operable.

     1     (a.1)  Nonschool or educational use.--A motor vehicle bearing
     2  school bus registration plates may be used for the
     3  transportation of children of nonschool groups for charitable,
     4  educational or recreational purposes: Provided, That the
     5  licensee receives no remuneration whatsoever.
     6     (b)  Penalty.--Any person violating this section is guilty of
     7  a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to
     8  pay a fine of $25.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
