A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the Borough of Mountville on its 200th anniversary.

2WHEREAS, On January 11, 1814, Issac Rohrer laid out the town 
3that became known as Mountville, dividing it into 130 building 
4lots, sold by lottery; and

5WHEREAS, Located four miles east of Columbia in West 
6Hempfield Township on the former Lancaster and Susquehanna 
7Turnpike, Mountville was originally named Mount Pleasant because 
8it was situated on an elevation affording a pleasant view of the 
9surrounding countryside in every direction; and

10WHEREAS, In 1834, the line of the Philadelphia & Columbia 
11Railroad was completed, skirting the town to the north near the 
12present-day Route 30 Interchange; and

13WHEREAS, The name of the little village was around this time 
14changed to Mountville in the railroad's timetable so as to avoid
 

1confusion with another Mount Pleasant that already existed in 
2this Commonwealth; and

3WHEREAS, Recognizing the need for a municipal water system,
4the town incorporated as a borough in 1906; and

5WHEREAS, The Borough of Mountville boasts one of the highest
6ratios of public park space per capita; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
8wealth of contributions that the Borough of Mountville has made
9to this Commonwealth; and be it further

10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its
11sincere best wishes for the continuation of the Borough of
12Mountville's most worthy endeavors in this Commonwealth in the
13years to come; and be it further

14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Borough 
15of Mountville on its 200th anniversary.
