A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
WHEREAS, The National Park Service was created by Congress
and signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson on August 25,
1916; and
WHEREAS, At the time of its establishment, the National Park
Service was responsible for 36 national parks, monuments and the
Hot Springs Reservation, which is the oldest protected land by
the Federal Government; and
WHEREAS, Today, there are 407 national park units of various
kinds across the United States; and
WHEREAS, National park visitors totaled 326,506 in 1916,
growing to more than 292 million visitors in 2014; and
WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, the National Park Service manages

18 national parks, hosting over 9 million visitors each year;
and
WHEREAS, Many people greatly enjoy the parks within this
Commonwealth and across the nation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
