A RESOLUTION
1Commemorating the 175th anniversary of the First United
2Methodist Church of Pottstown.
3WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church of Pottstown,
4Montgomery County, was founded in 1838; and
5WHEREAS, After 30 years of use, the first church building was
6demolished and a new church building with classic architecture
7was built and dedicated in 1870; and
8WHEREAS, Over the years, several additions were made to the
9church, including a Sunday school annex in 1883; and
10WHEREAS, In 1928, a two-story building with classrooms was
11added to the church grounds, which would serve as home to the
12first "modern" Sunday school of its kind in Pottstown and the
13surrounding area; and
14WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church has ministered to
15the Pottstown community through the ministries of its members;
1and
2WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the First United Methodist
3Church has served as a host for many Boy Scout, Cub Scout and
4Brownie troops; and
5WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church is currently the
6host for two other congregations, the Pottstown branch of
7Morningstar and Thesalonia, a Hispanic congregation; and
8WHEREAS, Since its inception, thousands of people have
9worshiped at the First United Methodist Church, and at its
10height there were more than 600 people registered for Sunday
11school and 800 members on its rolls; therefore be it
12RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
13175th anniversary of the First United Methodist Church of
14Pottstown.
