                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of October 10, 1974 (P.L.705, No.235), entitled
     2     "An act providing for the training and licensing of watch
     3     guards, protective patrolmen, detectives and criminal
     4     investigators, carrying and using lethal weapons in their
     5     employment; imposing powers and duties on the Commissioner of
     6     the Pennsylvania State Police; and providing penalties,"
     7     providing for a modified training course for nonteaching
     8     assistants in school districts of the first class.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  The act of October 10, 1974 (P.L.705, No.235),
    12  known as the Lethal Weapons Training Act, is amended by adding a
    13  section to read:
    14     Section 4.1.  Modified Training Program.--(a)  An education
    15  and training program in law enforcement and the protection of
    16  the rights of citizens shall be established and administered or
    17  approved by the commissioner in accordance with this act.
    18     (b)  This program shall be for nonteaching assistants
    19  employed by school districts of the first class in the capacity


     1  of hall monitors and unarmed security guards AND FOR SECURITY     <--
     2  GUARDS EMPLOYED BY A SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE FIRST CLASS.
     3     (c)  (1)  All nonteaching assistants employed after the
     4  effective date of this section by a school district of the first
     5  class in the capacity of a hall monitor or unarmed security
     6  guard AND ALL SECURITY GUARDS EMPLOYED BY A SCHOOL DISTRICT OF    <--
     7  THE FIRST CLASS shall be certified pursuant to this act under
     8  this section.
     9     (2)  All persons currently employed by a school district of
    10  the first class in the capacity of a hall monitor or unarmed      <--
    11  security guard shall be certified pursuant to this act, under
    12  this section, within two years ONE YEAR of the effective date of  <--
    13  this section.
    14     (D)  ALL SECURITY GUARDS EMPLOYED BY A SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE  <--
    15  FIRST CLASS WHO PATROL THE GROUNDS AROUND A SCHOOL BUILDING
    16  AFTER SUNDOWN SHALL ALSO RECEIVE LETHAL WEAPONS TRAINING.
    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
