REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES AND ENERGY, MAY 1, 2012  

A RESOLUTION

Designating April 22, 2012, as "Earth Day in Pennsylvania."

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has been endowed with true natural

beauty and an abundance of wood, water and natural resources;

and

WHEREAS, The founder of this Commonwealth, William Penn,

praised the land greatly after he saw it for the first time in

1682, noting "The country itself, its soil, air, water, seasons

and produce, both natural and artificial, is not to be

despised"; and

WHEREAS, While the General Assembly has taken action to

protect and preserve the natural resources of this Commonwealth,

the contamination of water and the despoliation of land continue

to be a problem and legislative concern; and

WHEREAS, We approach the 42nd anniversary of the first Earth

Day, held in April of 1970, filled with resolve to protect the

natural resources of this Commonwealth for all future

generations; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April

22, 2012, as "Earth Day in Pennsylvania"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives dedicate itself

to the proposition that the natural environment of this

Commonwealth must be protected and preserved and urge its

members and all citizens in Pennsylvania to participate in Earth

Day 2012 activities on April 22, 2012, and dedicate themselves

every day throughout the year to do their part to protect the

Earth and its natural resources and environment for all.
