A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the first consecutive Friday, Saturday and Sunday of
2each month during 2014 as "National Small Business Weekend"
3in Pennsylvania.

4WHEREAS, The National Small Business Weekend Organization
5helps to promote the idea of purchasing locally by urging people
6to shop small businesses on the first weekend of each month; and

7WHEREAS, Small businesses employ 60 million Americans who
8live and work in area neighborhoods; and

9WHEREAS, Small businesses are a driving force behind our
10nation's economy, creating nearly two out of every three new
11jobs and generating close to 50% of our nation's nonfarm gross
12domestic product; and

13WHEREAS, Small businesses represent 99.7% of employer firms
14in the United States; and

15WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has the sixth largest labor force

1in the nation with more than 6.4 million workers; and

2WHEREAS, Small businesses represent 94.2% of employer firms
3in this Commonwealth; and

4WHEREAS, Small businesses are innovators, and their concerns
5serve to advance technology and productivity; and

6WHEREAS, Promoting locally made products and supporting small
7businesses will further strengthen our national economy and
8encourage businesses to offer more American-made products;
9therefore be it

10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge the
11National Small Business Weekend Organization for the good work
12they do in promoting the buy local, buy American campaign; and
13be it further

14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
15first consecutive Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each month
16during 2014 as "National Small Business Weekend" in
17Pennsylvania; and be it further

18RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
19the National Small Business Weekend Organization, 308 Walnut
20Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
